Aerial view of the Bannockburn battlefield, with the bronze equestrian statue of Robert the Bruce, or king Robert I, 1274-1329, by Charles d'Orville Pilkington Jackson, inaugurated 1964, Stirling, Scotland. In 1314 Scottish forces led by Robert the Bruce defeated the English under Edward II at Bannockburn during the First War of Scottish Independence.
