Letter from Sir Philip Sidney to Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, 2nd February 1586. Letter written from Bergen by poet, courtier and soldier Sir Philip Sidney to Robert Dudley, favourite of Queen Elizabeth I and Commander-in Chief of the English forces in the Netherlands, complaining of his treatment by the Boors of Sommelsdijk, praying that he may either have quarters assigned to him or that requisite provisions be sent to Bergen, and protesting that his heart burns to do good service. Sidney was appointed Governor of Flushing on 7th November 1585, and Colonel of the Zeeland Regiment of Horse, to which he here refers. He died on 17th October 1586 from the effects of a wound recieved at Zutphen on 22nd September.
