Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, Dean of Westminster, 1880.Artist: Lock & Whitfield
Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, Dean of Westminster, 1880. He became dean in 1864. He was a great traveller and travelled extensivley in Europe, America and Asia. Whilst at Westminster he was very keen that clergymen and laymen were given the opportunity to voice their opinions. He was eager that people should appreciate Westminster and its history as much as he did, and would conduct parties around the building. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper. (Conducted by G. C. Whitfield.) (London, 1876-1883).
