Captain James Augustus Grant, Scottish explorer, 19th century. Grant (1827-1887) joined the Indian Army in 1846, seeing action in both the Sikh War and the Indian Mutiny. In 1860-1863 he accompanied John Hanning Speke on his expedition to Africa to locate the source of the Nile. Grant published his account of the journey in his book A Walk Across Africa, released in 1864.
