USS 'Shaw' exploding during the attack on Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, World War II, 7 December 1941. The destroyer USS 'Shaw' sustained three hits from Japanese bombs during the attack, causing fires to break out on board. The ship was abandoned before the fires detonated the ship's forward magazine and causing this spectacular explosion. Remarkably the ship survived and after repairs served extensively in the Pacific for the remainder of the war.
