Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucestershire, 2010. Tewkesbury Abbey was a Benedictine monastery founded in 1107. The church was saved from destruction in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries when the townspeople bought the building in order to be able to continue to use it as their parish church. Edward, Prince of Wales, who was killed in the Battle of Tewkesbury on 4th May 1471 during the War of the Roses, is buried in the church.
