Keir Hardie addressing the first women's suffrage demonstration, Trafalgar Square, London, 19 May 1906. Hardie (1856-1915) was a Scottish trade unionist and politician who was one of the founders of the Labour Party and its first Member of Parliament. He was a firm supporter of the campaign for women to receive the vote. Leading suffragettes Emmeline Pankhurst (1858-1928) and Elizabeth Clarke Wolstenholme Elmy (1833-1918) can be seen in the centre of the platform.
