The Tomb of Amenhotep II, Valley of the Kings, Egypt. Amenhotep (Amenophis) II was the seventh Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt. He ruled from 1427 until 1400 BC. His mummy was discovered still inside its original sarcophagus in tomb KV 35 in the Valley of the Kings in 1898 when it was excavated by the French archaeologist Victor Loret. The tomb also contained a cache of the mummies of five other pharaohs, moved there during the 21st Dynasty to protect them from the ravages of grave robbers.
