Oude Schans and Montelbaanstoren, Amsterdam, Natherlands. The Oude Schans canal is in one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam. The Montelbaanstoren tower is one of the few remaining pieces of Amsterdam's medieval walls. Guards could look out from the tower over the flat surrounding countryside to spot approaching enemy armies. The tower was built in 1512 with the steeple added about 100 years later.
