Parliament building, Budapest, Hungary. Designed in Neo-Gothic style by Imre Steindl, Budapest's Parliament building was built between 1883 and 1902. Covering an area of more than 33 acres on the bank of the Danube, it is one of the largest state buildings in Europe. Until 1989, the Parliament only once housed a democratically elected government, for a brief period after the Second World War before the Communist takeover.
