The path around the walls of the citadel, Victoria, Gozo, Malta. After the siege of Malta by the Ottomans in 1565, the Knights of St John extended and strngthened the fortifications of the citadel on the island of Gozo. Until the mid 17th century the island's inhabitants were required by law to spend their nights within the walls of the citadel. The main town on Gozo, Victoria (Rabat) grew up around the fortifications.
