Battle of Culloden, 16 April 1746 (18th century). Culloden was the last battle of the 1745 Jacobite rising under Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender. The English under William, Duke of Cumberland crushed the Scots in just 40 minutes. Cumberland, the third son of George II, was criticised for his brutality.
