Richard Francis Burton,1882. Burton (1821-1890) in the eastern dress he adopted on his travels. The figures on the right represent Murray and Baedeker guide books. Burton's extensive travels included a journey to Mecca, disguised as a Pathan, and an expedition to locate the source of the Nile, with John Hanning Speke.
