Pair of polychrome bowls with squirrels and vine, Qing dynasty, China, mid 17th century.
Pair of polychrome bowls with squirrels and vine, Qing dynasty, China, mid 17th century. A pair of shallow polychrome bowls painted in the interior with a group of yellow and green rocks and grasses. The exterior has two groups of grape sprays hanging from the rim in aubergine alternating with groups of two squirrels round a nut each in yellow. The whole scene is between red borders under the rim and above the foot. The base has an underglaze blue 6 character mark of Jiajing (1522-1566), but the pieces date from the mid 17th century.
