Shufu saucer dish with geese amid clouds, Yuan dynasty, China, 1279-1368. A large Shufu saucer dish covered with a thick waxy glaze of luanbai (egg white type) both inside and out. There is moulded decoration under the glaze of two geese in flight with neck and wings outstretched separated by cloud scrolls all below a classic scroll border between double lines. The exterior has a continuous incised wave border at the rim and a surround of incised four-line border of false gadroons round the base. 'Fu' and 'Lu' moulded characters are seen indistinctly in the interior under the glaze.
