Jade of two catfish with lingzhi on a bed of waves, Qing dynasty, China, 18th century.
Jade of two catfish with lingzhi on a bed of waves, Qing dynasty, China, 18th century. A white jade group of two catfish each with a sprig of lingzhi fungus entwined together head to tail (Ying-Yang) on a bed of waves. The base has a single whirlpool pattern, the water in places coming in wavelets up the sides of the fish. The whirlpool is rendered in places as a concave plane rather than incised lines typical of the mid-Qing style of wave bases.
