Jade mythological animal with an eagle perched on its back, Ming dynasty, China, 1368-1644. A pale celadon-green jade group of mythical animal in crouching position. The animal's head is turned towards an eagle with wings half open perched on its back, its bushy tail and long mane with finely incised fur markings and the wings and tail of the bird with similar details. The eyebrows of the mythical animal are incised and flame-like, and C-scrolls and striated hair tufts decorate the legs. The stone is of palest celadon tint.
