Jade boy with gourd backed by plantain leaf, late Ming dynasty, China, 1550-1644.
Jade boy with gourd backed by plantain leaf, late Ming dynasty, China, 1550-1644. A jade pebble of a Chinese boy seated holding a gourd backed by a large plantain leaf. The leaf is very naturalistically carved with its veins showing and the edges hollowed out, in places the leaf's edge is turned. The jade is of good white colour with a few small black or brown spots at the back.
