Jade peacock headdress finial, High Tang period, China, 684-756.
Jade peacock headdress finial, High Tang period, China, 684-756. A nephrite jade finial of a peacock shown with its fan tail raised with incised palmette feather eyes. Its head is held back and touching the tail, its beak is holding a short lingus spray, and its wings are partly raised, their tips touching the tail. The body has fine details throughout. It is very similar to pottery headresses worn by high class ladies in the High Tang period.
