Jade phoenix-headed garment hook, early Six Dynasties period, China, 220-420.
Jade phoenix-headed garment hook with kui dragon and feline in relief, early Six Dynasties period, China, 220-420. An asymetric belt hook. On the reverse is a plain button. The top of the elongated oval hook is decorated with three animals; a phoenix represented only by the head, which serves as the hook end slightly to one side and a long curling streamer tail representing the phoenix's body, a kui dragon in low relief on the tail of the hook and a stalking animal, probably a feline, on the main body of the hook.
