'Two Jubilees - a Harmony in Black and White', 1888.
'Two Jubilees - a Harmony in Black and White', 1888. The Pope paid a visit to Queen Victoria at the beginning of 1888. Dressed in white, he was in contrast to Her Majesty who, since the death of her beloved Albert, dressed entirely in widow's weeds. The meeting was amicable and Punch, in stark contrast to earlier depictions of Catholic menace, applauded the two illustrious sovereigns. From Punch, or the London Charivari,  January 7, 1888.
