'The Grand Young Man!!', 1886. Artist: Joseph Swain
'The Grand Young Man!!', 1886. Lord Randolph Churchill strikes a pose which mirrors the one of Benjamin Disraeli, Lord Beaconsfield, who appears in ghostly form in this cartoon. Since the recent Conservative victory in the General Election, Churchill - rather to the surprise of many - had been given the post of Chancellor of the Exchequer in Lord Salisbury's administration. This, of course, is the post held by Disraeli a number of times prior to becoming Prime Minister. From Punch, or the London Charivari, August 7, 1886.
