No You Don't!, 1885. Artist: Joseph Swain
No You Don't!, 1885. The British Lion warns the Russian Bear not to cross over into Afghanistan, seen in the distance in this cartoon. News had recently come in that Russia was planning to advance upon Penjdeh, held by Afghanistan. In return Afghan troops advanced to a position that Russia considered threatening. Discussions were continuing about where the frontier should be and, to the consternation of many, Britain's part in the discussion had been transferred to the Frenchman, M de Lessar. From Punch, or the London Charivari, March 14, 1885.
