Virgin of Montserrat, Catalonia, Spain.
Virgin of Montserrat, Catalonia, Spain. This Black Madonna in the Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat is said to have been carved by St Luke. The Romanesque wooden statue was in fact made at the end of the 12th century. The colour on her face and hands is due to the darkening of the varnish over time.
