William Howard, 1st Viscount Stafford, Roman Catholic martyr, (1827). In 1678, Howard (1614-1680) was implicated in the Popish Plot which was fabricated by anti-Catholics. He was sent to the Tower of London and later convicted of treason and executed. He is regarded as a Roman Catholic martyr.
