English cricket team, Trent Bridge cricket ground, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, 1899.
English cricket team, Trent Bridge cricket ground, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, 1899. The England team for the First Test against Australia. The match was WG Grace's last for England. Captain of the team, he was 50 years old at the time, and although still worth his place as a batsman, his fielding had deteriorated considerably, prompting the Nottingham crowd to jeer and heckle the great man as balls were struck past him at point. Grace asked to not be selected for the Second Test. The match saw England hang on to secure a draw on the final day.
