Held in September, the wakes were part of the Patronal Festival of St. Mary's Church, commemorating the Nativity of the Virgin Mary held on the Sunday following 19th September. The fair was held on the Flowers Show Field, then Worrall Avenue, then the Croft and finally on Coppice Road.
