Bretby Hall, Bretby, Derbyshire, 20th century.
Bretby Hall, Bretby, Derbyshire, 20th century. The castellated mansion was built in 1813 for the Earl of Chesterfield on the site of his family's 17th century manor house. The house was left unfinished at the Earl's death in 1815. The building was purchased in 1926 by the Derbyshire County Council for use as a hospital and remained an orthopaedic hospital until the 1990s, the hall and grounds then being sold to developers to provide private residential units.
