Crossing the Saint Bernard Pass, 1800. The Army of the Reserve led by General Louis Alexander Berthier (1753-1815), under the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), crosses the Alps in the snow. Joining the Army of the Alps, brought Berthier his first meeting with Bonaparte, with whom he served in a senior staff role in the Italian and Egyptian campaigns.
