Cartoon of the French novelist Emile Zola (1840-1902) while he was taking refuge in England after being sentenced to a year in prison for his role in the campaign to obtain justice for Alfred Dreyfus (c1859-1935). Dreyfus, a French army officer of Jewish extraction had been wrongly convicted of treason for supplying documents to the Germans and sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island.
