Edward Montagu, second Earl of Manchester, 17th century English nobleman, (1840). In the English Civil War Montagu (1602-1671) fought on the side of Parliament against the Royalists. He opposed the trial of Charles I however, and later actively promoted the restoration of the monarchy. After a portrait by Peter Lely (1618-1680).
