A medallion bust of Marcus Aurelius, Eleusis, Greece. Artist: Samuel Magal
A medallion bust of Marcus Aurelius, Eleusis, Greece. The Great Propylaea, built during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, was the monumental entrance to the Sanctuary of Artemis at Eleusis. This bust, probably of Marcus Aurelius, decorated the pediment. Marcus Aurelius (121-180) was Roman emperor from 161 until his death. Ancient Eleusis lies within the present-day industrial town of Elevsis (Elefsina) in Greece.
