Monument of the Partisan Heroes, stone monument depicting 2 women standing heroically with nooses around their neck, Gjirokastra, Albania. The statue pays tribute to 2 teenage girls Bule Naipi and Persefoni Kokedhima who were partisans during WWII providing assistance to the rebel forces in the contryside. Betrayed to the German forces occupying the city they were hanged in 1944. Gjirokastra was settled by the Greek Chaonians, the Romans and Byzantines before becoming an Ottoman city in 1417.
