Altarpiece, Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, Perpignan Cathedral, Pyrenees-Orientales, France
The immaculate conception of the Virgin, and her parents Joachim and Anne to either side, from the early 18th century altarpiece by LLatzer Tremullas the younger in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, in Perpignan Cathedral, Perpignan, Pyrenees-Orientales, France. The Virgin is depicted standing on the moon with a cloak of the sun and crowned by a 12-pointed star. The Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist of Perpignan, or Basilique-Cathedrale de Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Perpignan was begun in 1324 by King Sancho of Majorca in Catalan Gothic style, and later finished in the 15th century.
