Nave, Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, Venice, Italy
Nave of the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, built 1481-89 by Pietro Lombardo in Renaissance style, to house a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, Venice, Italy. The nave culminates in an ornamental marble staircase between 2 pulpits leading to the altar, and has a barrel vaulted coffered ceiling with paintings of prophets, by Vincenzo dalle Destre and Lattanzio da Rimini. The city of Venice is an archipelago of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
