Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, built 1481-89 by Pietro Lombardo in Renaissance style, to house a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, Venice, Italy. The early Venetian Renaissance facade has a false arcade design of coloured marble, which was restored 1987-97. The city of Venice is an archipelago of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
