POMPEII, ITALY - JULY 3 : a detail of a statue in the Macellum, on July 3, 2007, Pompeii, Italy. The statue is portraying Agrippina, wife of Emperor Claudius which is situated in the Sacellum, also called Imperial shrine, within the Macellum. Pompeii's covered food market is North East of the Forum, and dating from the 2nd century BC. Pompeii was seriously damaged by an earthquake in 62AD and engulfed by Volcanic ash after a major eruption of Mount Vesuvius in August 79AD. It lay almost undisturbed  until archaeologists started to excavate it seriously in the 18th century.
