'Saint Barbara', c1495-c1519. A Christian martyr who died c235, Saint Barbara was shut up in a tower to protect her from suitors. She is said to have put a third set of windows into the tower to represent the trinity. In her right hand is a golden chalice with a communion wafer above, representing the body and blood of Christ. St Barbara is the Patron saint of arsenals and artillery and a protector against lightning.
