'Clipper Ship 'Flying Cloud'', 1851-1907. Designed by Donald McKay and built in Boston, the 'Flying Cloud' was considered one of the best clippers ever built. Launched in 1851, she completed the voyage from New York to San Francisco around Cape Horn in 89 days and 21 hours, at one stage covering 374 miles in a 24 hour period. In 1871 'Flying Cloud' ran aground off St John's, Newfoundland and was condemned, burnt and her fittings sold for scrap. Print published by Currier and Ives, New York, USA.
