St Elizabeth of Hungary, (1878).
St Elizabeth of Hungary, (1878). Elizabeth (1207-1231) was the daughter of Andras II of Hungary. After the death in 1227 of her husband Louis IV, Landgrave of Thuringia, from plague while on crusade, she joined the Franciscan order and cared for the poor, becoming noted for her asceticism and piety. Here Elizabeth is pictured, aged 9, talking with servants.
