Courtyard of Gresham College, London, 18th century. Gresham College was established in 1597 in the mansion of Sir Thomas Gresham in Bishopsgate under the terms of his will. Although its true origins are somewhat earlier, the Royal Society was formally constituted on 28 November 1660 at the college, which served as its meeting place until 1710.
