Ding black glazed pillow with hatched moulding, Jin dynasty, China, 12th century.
Ding black glazed pillow with hatched moulding, Jin dynasty, China, 12th century. An eye-glass shaped pillow, the pedestal is decorated with cross-hatched moulding all under a thick black glaze extending almost to the unglazed base, which shows the putty-coloured Ding body and two air holes. The piece is very light weight which is typical of pieces from the Ding kiln. The top has numerous small brown flecks and its edge is whitish where the glaze is thin.
