Statue of the Buddha, from Garvara, India, 2nd century.
Statue of the Buddha, from Garvara, India, 2nd century. Buddhism was founded in Nepal in the 6th century BC by Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha (Enlightened One). Unlike the world's other major religions it does not feature the idea of a creator, or concentrate on the relationship between the individual and God. Instead Buddhism focuses on the individual's personal spiritual development and the path to enlightenment, attainable through morality, meditation and the gaining of wisdom. From the Delhi Museum.
