Tecumseh (c1768-1813), Native American chief of the Shawnees. Tecumseh led an uprising against the whites, which was crushed in 1811. Afterwards he served the English, commanding their Indian allies against the United States in the War of 1812-1813. He was killed fighting in Canada on 5 October 1813.
