Wucai saucer with immortal and attendants, Wanli period, Ming dynasty, China, 1572-1620. A polychrome saucer dish decorated in the wucai palette with iron-red, green, yellow and underglaze blue. An immortal stands on a leaf in the centre above breaking waves with an attendant at each side below pine and rockwork, and within a border of auspicious characters in underglaze blue amongst scrolling lingzhi. The reverse has eight flower sprays above a band of classic scrolls.
