Aubergine glazed kinrande dish with peach and shou character, Jiajing period, Ming dynasty, China, 1522-1566. One of a pair of aubergine kinrande four-lobed shallow dishes gilded with a central Shou (longevity) character among peach branches within plain borders. The rim is decorated with gilt bands. The piece is primarily covered with an aubergine glaze, the base, however, is glazed yellow. Kinrande refers to the gold brocade decoration forming the pattern against the monochrome background colour.
