Wu Yishan blackware bowl with gilt auspicious characters, Southern Song dynasty, China, 1200-1279. A Wu Yishan blackware bowl tending to brown where the glaze is thin. The interior is painted in gold with four six-petalled flower-shaped medallions surrounding good luck characters. The flowers are surrounded by gold lines radiating from the small flat centre, the exterior has a plain black glaze extending two thirds of the way down. The base is knife-parred and unglazed, revealing the buff body.
