Lion's head and capital found in Petra, from the Petra Archaeological Museum, Petra, Ma'an, Jordan. This carved lion probably originated from the Temple of the Winged Lions, built c. 27 AD, where sculpted lion's heads adorned the tops of the capitals. Petra was the capital and royal city of the Nabateans, Arabic desert nomads.
