'Last Minutes of False Dmitriy I', 1879. False Dmitry was the name of several impostors who laid claim to the Russian throne with Polish-Lithuanian support in the 1600s, claiming to be the Tsarevich Dmitry, the youngest son of Ivan the Terrible. The first of them actually ruled Russia from 1605 until 1606, when he was murdered in a coup after conspirators stormed the Kremlin. Found in the collection of the State Art Museum, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
