Lion rampant beneath a monster, between Romanesque arches, south side of Nave arcade, 12th century, Bayeux Cathedral (Notre Dame de Bayeux), 11th-19th century, Bayeux, France. The Romanesque section of the Cathedral, dedicated 1077, was reconstructed after 12th century war between the sons of William the Conqueror. Here William forced Harold to take the oath which led to the Norman Conquest of England. Gothic and Neo-Gothic sections were added until the 19th century.
